Cub Camp, Dublin Mountains, weekend 19th Sept - how bad will it be?!

Hi all, especially OYBBK and GloriaSmud Grin,

I'm hoping that you may have some slightly further out guidance than I can find on YR on what kind of a programme I need to plan for a very different Cub Camp this year, at short notice, in less than 2 weeks.

Well, really, how good or bad the weather will be - if it's bad, I need to plan lots more to do in 2 marquees while maintaining SD. We're only letting a max of 12 sleep on either night (Fri and Sat) and all can come on the day in the middle for the main activities.

To further complicate things, my 7 new Cubs have not had an overnight yet due to Covid - hostel trip in March was cancelled and our normal 2 night annual camp (with lots of instructor-led activities) in June. So I need to figure out which of those need the better weather night to stay. (Although going home after a sleepless night, day of activities and potentially 2nd campfire (as I'll do one each night so no one misses it) might work better than sleepless night at home with excitement, day of activities and campfire and then sleepless night on camp...I've possibly answered that one myself).

Basically, any early guidance on weather potential (I know, it's beyond 10 days out so nothing concrete yet), and any great ideas anyone has to entertain up to 24 Cubs, would be greatly appreciated!!

(Apologies, BiddyPop, only just seen your post)

At the moment, Friday night looks dry and Saturday starts fine but looks wet from mid-afternoon onwards as a band of rain moves in. It's looking really wet Saturday night before the rain clears away Sunday morning. Temperatures could be chilly Friday night (7C but cooler if you're up in the mountains) to 15C Saturday.

As for activities - any ideas here that might help?

Thanks Gloria,

Sounds, well, mixed!! Definitely newbies on night 1 then!

And thanks for the Activity Village link - I had forgotten that as a great source for games and printing pages.

Although, given increasing case numbers locally, I may well have to call off the trip and just go boating instead at the Den.

It's just enough to top off a wonderful summer. Hmm Hope you're doing ok though, and OYBBK too.

Looks like that band of rain has gone and you could be in for decent weather now, BiddyPop. Temperatures not bad either - bit chilly at night but 15C or so during the day.
(Apologies for no update life is busy!)

Thanks so much for coming back to this Gloria and thinking of me. Regretfully, the Leaders decided that, as numbers are rising rapidly locally, we needed to cancel camp trip - between my own asthma and responsibility if any Cubs caught covid, it was getting too much. And it's made its way into a local school this week (I think some of my Cub families attend that one) so I think we just made the call early ahead of Govt locking us down tomorrow as there are good indications that they will for Dublin.

Nice heatwave going on in the UK though, we're not that hot. And plenty of interesting weather all over - Japan typhoons causing Denver snow, far more than usual hurricanes in the US and plenty more potential storms bubbling, and some storms in the Med as well....it's just as turbulent as life at the moment.

Oh BiddyPop, sorry to hear that it all got cancelled. Wretched virus.
