Happy 10 year Anniversary to Weather lovers and Weather haters!

Turns out we had our 10 year weather section anniversary last month!

Ten years ago we were in rather a freeze, a different story this year.

We've seen buckets of snow, deluges and floods, graupel, freezing rain, severe gales, drought, storms and even the odd tornado or two.

We've had exciting weather and sadly sometimes very difficult weather, but we've seen it through together, sharing stories, information and helpfulness. People bringing local knowledge to share so that others can benefit.

Thank you both so much for all you do to inform us in general, teach us as we go along, and give specific (amateur but often better than the professionals) advice where you can.

10 years ago, I don't think I was on MN yet (I was on a, now-defunct I think, Irish parenting board) - but that winter 2009/10 saw a whole lot of stuff going on and as I was dealing with a lot of travelling folk within the family, I learned that Met Eireann's website was not great and started to use YR. Now, I know to look at numerous sites and how to look at the raw data - and to seek out advice from those who can better interpret that data!! - to plan ahead. (And I also know many ways to watch planes en route, find train options, book hotel rooms in a hurry etc). DH has even started to ask, if he needs to know ahead of time about travel, "what does the Kitten say?" - rather than his usual face when I mention MN.

Ooh I remember Eyjafjallajökull from under my old login prior to JeffreyGate.

I'm a regular lurker and occasional poster, you both do a great job and I find the weather threads both useful and very interesting.

It's the best bit of Mumsnet.

I'd forgotten that this was where we chatted in great detail about the ash cloud. Fun times!

That was a year before I joined. DD was in Nursery and I joined when she was in Reception.

As I said on the other thread - I was on holiday in NZ, basking in the ☀️ When @Norks was asking about the Thames Streamer - all I could picture was a Steamer on the Thames!

Then the weather got serious and I was getting photos from home of huge icicles growing outside my front door!
