Fascinating article. I remember 1976, I was 20, & it seemed much hotter than this year.

But I was living & working in London not close to the coast & retired as I am now.

I remember the drought of 76 - water was only on for about 3-4 hours a day. Very trying.

I remember it too. it is when we first noticed that shaddows moved during the day as we sat in a different place under the tree on the playground.
