New BBC weather pages - bad!

I hate it! I check the weather obsessively every so often but I can't work the pages. Not intuitive at all and the opening map is almost entirely devoid of info, it just has a few rain/sun symbols. Doesn't even say when it's talking about. No temperature or wind. There are some forecast maps but they are all slow and jerky! I just want to know which coat to wear!!!! Grrr.

Have you tried the met office website? it is better.

Sittinonthefloor · 02/02/2018 20:40

Phew! Thank you, much better. Do they have an app? Just want a nice, clear map!

Have a look at Accuweather.

tribpot · 02/02/2018 22:29

The Met Office do have an app, Accuweather is pretty good as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/02/2018 23:13

Apps wise I really like Weather Pro.
The problem with all these automated maps though is that they are all generated from models and sometimes human experience is what counts most.

Riverside2 · 05/02/2018 19:32

OMD I've just seen these

awful! bizarre display, kind of makes my eyes confused...? Not sure if OP was looking at the same thing, but what I get now, for a 5 day display, there's no clear demarcation between each day and the background all the same colour? I can't figure out why it's so discombobulating but it is.

PanPanPanPing · 06/02/2018 06:47

Do the grey blobs mean snow? There are some blue blobs towards the end of the day, which must be rain.

I find Accuweather overly optimistic about forecasts. I keep it on my phone though as it cheers me up even though I know from experience it's not going to be at all sunny like it promises.

Riverside2 · 06/02/2018 12:44

If Accuweather is optimistic then the forecast of freezing for the next two weeks is even worse than I thought.

JillJ72 · 06/02/2018 12:51

Thumbs down from me. It's too busy but too plain as well; it doesn't have much touchy feely warmth to it...

PanPanPanPing · 06/02/2018 14:08

Ah, just worked out that the grey blobs refer to precipitation of some sort.

However, it hasn't rained in London anyway!

My ancient laptop didn't give me the option to ask, whilst my iPad answered the question!

LapdanceShoeshine · 06/02/2018 14:15

I don’t think the BBC weather app has changed, if it helps.

I have that, & the Met Office, & Weather Pro, & Meteoradar. I like weather Grin

Riverside2 · 06/02/2018 16:40

Pan, thanks for the pic - it makes me realise, it just looks like a very busy excel data sheet which needs proper headings and column lines before I'd actually consider it finished!

PanPanPanPing · 07/02/2018 09:09

Yes, it does look strangely unfinished, Riverside.

I'm still not sure about the grey blobs though. I think they must mean light rain/drizzle or sleet (?), whilst the blue blobs mean real rain!

Riverside2 · 07/02/2018 17:58

I can only see grey blobs, no blue blobs and that's looking ahead 10 days.

PanPanPanPing · 07/02/2018 18:30

My screenshot (upthread, from yesterday) shows grey blobs for most of the day, but the blue blobs appear at around 2200 hours. My screenshot is from the desktop site though, I have no idea what their App looks like.

Riverside2 · 08/02/2018 11:16

today I see blue blobs!!

is it their short code for cloudy with some rain, vs. blue sky or clear sky with some rain?

whatever it is, it's plops!

GrouchyKiwi · 08/02/2018 11:22

I hate it. I find it hard to look at and thus hard to decipher.

lookingforthedroids · 08/02/2018 11:32

Yep - the new BBC pages are grim. Much less information, and far less accurate for our locality than they used to be. I'm not going to bother using the BBC site any more.

hoochymama1 · 08/02/2018 13:15

Oh! I was thinking the same thing! Will try met office app Wink

LapdanceShoeshine · 08/02/2018 13:21

BBC app vs Met Office app

Met Office has lots more information as you scroll down. Much better all round Smile

Thiscantreallybehappening · 08/02/2018 13:31

So glad I have seen this thread, I thought it must just be me. The new BBC weather pages are awful I can't work them out at all. Whatever are they thinking. I want to send a stroppy email too, where do I send it too?

friendlyflicka · 08/02/2018 13:36

I hate the way words are being replaced by symbols everywhere. I find it much more difficult to make sense.

LapdanceShoeshine · 10/02/2018 16:18

Guardian article on BBC dropping the Met Office for meteo group

I use meteo group too but I don’t trust them the same way Sad

Ironically, MeteoGroup’s service will be based, partly, on Met Office data.
(I wonder what the other part is...)
