As requested I'll post here too. Grin

Snow's coming down thick now, hard to say how much we have as it's quite windy already.

This is my current view. (Not very exciting.)

DD1 is supposed to be flying from
Manchester to JFK tomorrow morning.

Supposedly her inbound plane is on the ground at JFK, and set to depart on time at 2130 EST; but I’ve also seen that the airport is reported as closed until 7am tomorrow!

So that’s a bit weird.

We might get to keep her for another day though Smile

Hope you lot are keeping warm!

Flooding in Sciutate, MA

(Oh wait - is MA Massachusetts, not Maine? Too many M states Blush)

Report
imyourgirl · 05/01/2018 01:56

Thanks. I think those flooding videos were taken in Massachusetts. They had awful flooding. Add to hat that it's going to drop to -20 to -30 in the next few days and it's going to be horrific.

We've just got the biggest band coming up on us now, the eye is pretty near. We may even get some thundersnow which I've never seen before.

Smile ME is Maine, MA is Massachusetts. It took me ages to figure that out and I still don't know most of the States.

lapdance JFK opens at 7am tomorrow. Should be fine. It's absolutely this weekend. If she has ear cuffs, proper ski gloves and a puffer coat she should bring on or order all of this via Amazon prime for delivery to her hotel. It's going to be -20C this weekend. They are saying exposure to the air for more than 30mins will lead to frostbite. The good news is that the forecast is saying it will be 40F on Monday.

It was snowing all day and then at about 4:15pm it just stopped. I work in midtown and it was like being in a ball of cotton wool all day. My eyes are killing me from the cold air and glaze.

Ughhhh it's absolutely FREEZING this weekend.

Snow and flooding and severe freezing all at once is just not fair!

Stay warm and safe Smile

Thanks, Supermum - I’m thinking though there’s not going to be a plane at MAN for her to fly out on! I know it takes them a while to get all the planes & crew in the right places again.

DD lives in NY, so she’s used to winter conditions, though I think this bit is probably worse than she’ll have had before! She was lucky to miss most of the cold snap.

She always comes home for Christmas & is literally always delayed by something going back, whichever date it is. It’s getting quite funny!

She’s due back at work (teaching) on Monday & I’m wondering now if she’ll make it.

Did she make her flight or did they cancel for today?

On the contrary, op. I'd be very excited if I looked out of my window and saw that!!

She made it!

Scheduled departure was 1130GMT, but they had to wait until JFK reopened (at 1200) to get confirmation; they took off about 1330. (They had to get another plane from somewhere though)

She sent this earlier Grin

Great! It was lovely this morning but it's windier now. I'm on the 35th floor and I can feel the wind.

(She lives on the 1st floor in Chelsea so should be fine)(as long as she stays indoors!)

Haven't taken snow pictures yet. Wasn't that impressive. This however is this morning. It's wind chill of -35.

This is sea smoke, only occurs when it's stupidly cold. The heating in the car can't keep up. I want to go to bed until May. Sad

Hope everyone is managing to keep warm. Our friends have emailed over their photos of the storm and volume of snow. They live in Connecticut but work in Manhattan. They didn’t make it into work but have heating, food and internet so ok at home.

DD didn’t manage to keep very warm - she hasn’t got her suitcase back yet (massive cock-ups by Thomas Cook, lots of unhappy passengers) & her apt was only 13C on Saturday (building heat very spasmodic Hmm)

Anyway at least she’s at work today, which is comfortably warm, & NY is supposed to reach a balmy 5 tomorrow Grin

How’s everybody else? Hope your flooding subsided, @imyourgirl

Know the rules on apartment heating. Her LL is required to provide space heaters if below state mandated temperatures. In NJ it's 65/63. If below these state mandated temperatures and no space heater provided the unit is deemed to not meet the habilitation definition and rent doesn't need to be paid for those days.

Our tenants had insufficient heat and we gave them our space heaters so we were in compliance of the 6 hour rule to provide space heaters. I then had to figure out how I could get another three space heaters ASAP for our home. Walmart came through for us. Amazon order is still being processed a week later.

She did have a space heater - she posted this pic with a temp of 56 showing (that was her 13).

Later she said it was up to 17, which would be 64? So just within your limits, Supermum.

Who pays for the electricity though? Building heat is included in rent?

Tenant pays the electric if heat isn't included in the rental agreement. If included then the LL should give a credit towards the cost. Best way to Calc amount of credit is to compare the coned bill from this year to prior year. ConEd are not the best but if she wasn't the account holder they can disclose this information to the tenant when the account is in the tenants name.
