Best shoes for walking to school when icy?!

I have two children. One is at a school 1.2miles away and the other 0.6 miles away. Some days I take my youngest and husband takes the oldest. But both schools involve hills.

When it's icy, the hills are horrible! Any one know any decent shoes that won't make me so scared I'm going to slip?!

if its proper ice as in snow and ice then yaktrax are the way to go. If its icy from a deep frost then lightweight walking shoes, or even better some lovely merrel boots might help.

Thank you! I think I'll go with the walking shoes - merrel are out of my price range but they have some lovely boots which is a shame I can't afford that!
