Anyone put their heating on yet?

Feeling a little chilly this evening, but being the tight Scot that I am, I'm resisting putting the heating on!

Anyone else caved in and just gone for it yet? Can't believe it's October already...

SE here. Heating is allowed from late September - April. A couple of hours anyway as it gets dark early and the temperature's been plummeting. It's really cold tonight.

pollyblack · 02/10/2016 22:51

It is expensive but we have a flat rate direct debit so it doesn't make a great deal of difference, and i use heating frugally only putting it on when i need it. What i mean is that its perfectly justified to need it in any month, i can't see the sense in saying "i will never use the heating in september" etc.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 03/10/2016 06:33

pollyblack do you really have a flat rate DD? Because I work for an energy company and people thinking they have this when they don't is the cause of many many problems! And if you really do, who is it with?

Natsku · 03/10/2016 06:38

Had it on as soon as we moved into our new house a few days ago. Lovely and warm! Dread to think how much the oil will cost to refill the tank though.

myfriendnigel · 03/10/2016 06:46

Put mine on on Saturday in rainy cold Essex. Few hours morning, few hours evening to take the edge off.Glad I did because it's freezing this morning!
Not quite cold enough for the winter duvet yet though.

TheoriginalLEM · 03/10/2016 06:51

i thought about it last night but it makes me feel tired and as i worked a 56 hour week this week martyr I don't need my house making me even more sluggish!

Toffeelatteplease · 03/10/2016 06:54

Mine's on but only because I have a funky living room. The rest of the house mostly stays around 16 year round heating or not. But the living room is not as well insulated and absolutely freezes.

Given the chance it is waay better to not let my living room get too cold than to try and heat it back up later. The radiators are virtually turned off in the rest of the house (doesn't change much through winter)

ChickenSalad · 03/10/2016 06:54

Yes we have just in the morning. It is 3C this morning and we get up early.

chipsandpeas · 03/10/2016 06:56

had it on for the past week in the mornings

Mcnorton · 03/10/2016 06:57

In SE England. Ours came on yesterday but we turned it off as it was too hot. We've still got windows open so no point letting it all out. Have graduated to sleeved clothes and socks but not needed heating yet.

NicknameUsed · 03/10/2016 06:57

"I understand it if you can't afford it but just holding out for the sake of it is a bit martyrish imo."

This ^^

In our house the heating goes on when the temperature dictates it, not the calendar.

We have solar panels and we can afford not to be martyrs to the cold - we've been there, done that and got the T-shirt. I'm not going back to being cold and miserable again.

GaryGilmoresEyes · 03/10/2016 06:59

Mines been on an hours boost for the last few evenings until the fires are lit. I'm a soft southerner living in Scotland ( according to DP) and am finding it hard ( after 4 years, mind) to adjust to the rain and cold. Did I mention the rain?

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 03/10/2016 07:00

Had to put it on because school uniform isn't dry.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 03/10/2016 07:02

I am far down south and I am resisting. Its just starting to feel nippy. Last night I got the blankets out and put my house fleece on. I am going to try and hold out until November as we are seriously skint and our heating costs a bomb. Kids going to bed in onesies and wearing gillets indoors.

If money was no object I would have it on.

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 03/10/2016 07:07

Our towels are still damp this morning so I think we might need to soon.
Wish we had an electric towel rail, then could probably hold off a bit longer!

timeforachangeithink · 03/10/2016 07:11

North East Scotland here and no heating yet. Not far away from putting it on though. I've usually got it on by Sept but I'm worried about my 1 year old and the radiators which is probably making me hold off a bit.

ChishandFips33 · 03/10/2016 22:08

Have caved in and put it on for an hour so I can have a lovely long soak in a toasty warm bathroom

Holding out otherwise

SideOrderofChip · 04/10/2016 12:32
