TrafficScotland's website is here. Not surprisingly, there are some bridge closures already.

I am in NI and it is very windy here today. Hope all affected in Scotland stay safe.

I read on here the other day a comment someone made about "March winds". Is that a thing then? Is it common for there to be high winds in March?

GloriaSmud · 09/03/2015 13:17

I've just 'Googled' this and it's come up with the Wikipedia entry here. March/April time seems to be a bit of a changeover time for the UK's weather.

Ah, interesting, thanks.

It looks rather rough for the western Isles this evening doesnt it.

Lulled into false sense of security when today was pretty calm; it's just really picked up in the last hour and got nearly blown over in the car park .. awful now and not even in the worst of it

AgentProvocateur · 09/03/2015 19:14

Incredibly windy here on the outskirts of Glasgow. It's gusting down my chimney.

youmakemydreams · 09/03/2015 19:29

Windy and wet in the Highlands has been since late afternoon. We have an amber warning for power cuts and some places already lost it.

Nervo · 09/03/2015 19:31

Blowing a hoolie here on the West Coast.

It was a bit noisy through the night, but not too bad. Apparently gusts of 89mph were recorded near here, but it's only when speeds are 100+ that the locals get twitchy.

Slice a local person (Western Isles) told me we usually get stormy around the equinoxes.
