How's the weather looking for next weekend in the midlands then Devon from Monday? Going to a festival and camping straight after with a baby and child. Bit worried about being cold at night!

knittedslippersx2 · 17/08/2014 10:35

Doesn't effect me but is that it now, are we headed for autumn? Is summer done with? I'm suffolk based!

LadyCelia · 17/08/2014 11:21

Kitten, do you think the wind will die down by Tuesday? We have to go from Liverpool to the Isle of Man on the Vomit Comet that day, and I am not a good sailor at the best of times! The IOM Met office forecast was OK for that day up until this morning....Confused

Chuck GFS (the main weather model that casual users can see that far in advance) has been consistent over the past few days of bringing in a fair bit of rain at some point over next weekend and the following week.it has shifted that to Monday from Sunday. I'm afraid it doesn't look enormously warm either.

Knitted, it does at the moment seem like the real heat is over but temps in the 20s is normal some summers.

Ladycelia, it looks calmer, but I'm afraid not calm. Sorry.

Don't laugh if this is a really stupid question, do you have any inklings of what sort of winter we are in for? Is it way too early to tell, if so when do you start getting information/ readings etc?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/08/2014 21:48

I'm afraid I don't knitted. Earlier this year it looked like this winter would be dominated by El Niño which tends (but doesn't guarantee) to give colder drier winters than average in Europe.
At this point the indicators are apparently less clear that we will enter an El Niño phase and if we do it looks like it will be a weak-moderate affair. See the noaa discussion.

Thanks Kitten. Cold and dry would suit me, anything but snow and ice! I hope you know how valued your posts are Kitten, even when I don't post I always follow your reports!

LadyCelia · 17/08/2014 22:54

Thanks kitten, always better to be forewarned. Will be off the the shops tomorrow to bulk buy sea sickness tablets & all manner of things to bribe DS to sit still for 4 hrs! Why didn't we book to go home in July instead wails

ChuckNovice · 17/08/2014 23:08

Thanks Kitten! Camping prep underway, I went to a festival last month and it was boiling the whole time hardly needed a jacket all night. Think I'll be packing the kids snowsuits next weekend.

mankyscotslass · 18/08/2014 06:16

It was wild here overnight - we were woken several times by rain and high winds and some neighbours have lost a few fence panels.

Mankycat was seriously unimpressed when a draft caused by the wind slammed our bedroom door shut and woke him up.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/08/2014 07:51

Manky that sounds rather sleepless!

You are welcome chuck, knitted and ladycelia. :)
