As it says, I have just found myself unexpectedly, child free for two weeks.

For various reasons this summer has been very draining and I just want to relax in the sun, on my own. I'm only going away for the heat/sun, other than that I'd be happy to stay at home... So I need help to find some pretty much guaranteed sunshine!! :) I just don't think I can bear to head into this winter without some sun first!!

Ideally this would be in a very small village in France, in a gite, with a pool. A couple of local shops, possible day trips to civilisation, maybe. But somewhere I don't need to hire a car to get to as it needs to be as cheap as possible!

My idea of hell would be an all inclusive holiday at a busy resort.

Please help me find the sun!!

Unfortunately all of europe is seeing rain at some point over the next couple of weeks. I would def avoid northern France. South of France is going to be high 20's or low 30's but they are in most places having thundery downpours on and off.

Portugal actually has the best weather of Europe at present. Temps in the Algarve high 20's, occasional low 30's and sunny. Easy jet go from gatwick to Faro.

I dont know the region at all mind you so probably worth starting a specific thread on it if its the sort of area you fancy.

Turkey! Cheap as chips when you get there, if you eat where the locals eat (& that's the best food). Fethiye was 40C a couple of days ago.

Turkey looks just a little unsettled early next week but then gets its act together again after.

BringMeSunshine2014 · 15/08/2014 10:24

Thanks :)

How bad do you think the rain will be in Southern France? Don't mind the odd full day of rain or daily showers, but don't want to go if it's going to be wet more than its sunny if you know what I mean.

I had a look at Portugal, but the flights are ridiculously expensive to come back. Tempting not to come back mind!

Hadn't considered turkey... What's it like as a woman on your own? I quite fancy it as a place to explore, not sure about it as a place to relax on my own for a bit?

It doesnt look wet every day for sure, still plenty of sun. Have a look at meteo france the equivalent to our met office. Temps look lower than my forecast though. eep.

Nice little, quiet Greek village - maybe in Skiathos or Santorini or any of the less 'lively' islands?

Am off for a little daydream.

I just read an article about Narbonne. It looks really nice and you can get the train from St Pancras to there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2014 16:22

train info it goes via Lille.

Carcassonne? I know a fab gite, just as you describe... With a wonderful hostess. PM me if you'd like more info!

BringMeSunshine2014 · 16/08/2014 09:30

Mummaduke - that sounds lovely. Unfortunately I can't find any trains or flights there that don't involve the severing of limbs :( I just can't justify 500 on flights/trains :( (for one person). I'll keep looking though and if I find transport, I'll definitely PM you!
