The storm currently near Wantage looks capable of becoming imminently tornadic. Please take great care with this one.

NigellasDealer · 19/07/2014 18:05

someone there just posted a pic from alvescot on my fb - looks scary

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:06

Good idea :)

Feel like I'm warning a little late but I've been out enjoying the sun!

Yet I am 5 miles from Alvescot and nothing here?!?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:06

How bizarre!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:07

Socks, that's the nature of thunderstorms.

SocksRock · 19/07/2014 18:08

I guess - am a bit wary now in case it does get to us - I can hear it in the distance but we have blue skies, sunshine and a very light shower right now. I am north east of Alvescot.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:08

We average 47 tornadoes a year in the UK.

I don't know the area terribly well. Will pull up a map.

Really? I also had no idea storms were that localised...

Bearsinmotion · 19/07/2014 18:11

How wide ranging is it? We're in Oxford, just come back near Wantage and it all looked fine!

Eynsham tornado 2 years ago

enjoyingscience · 19/07/2014 18:19

It passed us about half an hour ago (just west of wantage). Incredible rain and hail, genuinely don't think I've seen heavier. Lasted about 10 minutes then passed over. Looks like I should be grateful to still have a roof!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:22

How big was the hail enjoying?

ChasedByBees · 19/07/2014 18:23

We're near there. We took this photo about 30 minutes ago but it dissipated into nothingness. Frustrating as it's so bloody humid.

Just shy of marble size, maybe 8mm? Melted very quick, though we did try to catch some to take photos, we weren't quick enough. DS1 used his dad's shoe as a catcher. Oops!

Floundering · 19/07/2014 18:25

Friend of mine in Leics had her garden all but flooded earlier, I'm NW of her on the Lincs / Notts border & it keeps clouding over & having a little downpour then the sun comes out again.....we still haven't had the storm & although I'm dreading it in a way I'd like it to clear the air, too bloody muggy!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:28

That's pretty decent size enjoying!
