According to a BBC report here, the sun should be really active at the moment.

Good for skiing?

The Thames in London used to freeze regularly when it was wider and therefore shallower, and this was when they used to hold the frost fairs. Now it has been channelled and we have the Embankment and so on, the Thames runs deeper and faster and doesn't freeze. I can't remember where I read that!

Hmm

This from Professor Lockwood, Head of Tosh at the University of Woo.

Conventional solar scientists don't think anything abnormal is happening, in fact quite a lot of interesting solar activity but that's not a scare story is it BBC ?

So much for it being a good year for the Northern Lights then!
