As probably the only person in Britain who hates the heat...

...could someone tell me how long this heatwave will last? I'm hearing alarming forecasts of it lasting for the rest of the summer. Gulp. Is this really the case? (Should say I live in the SW, and am very envious of those in the temperate north).

its too hot to open windows because its cooler in the house, I went out to take some recycling things to the bin and the heat hit me when i opened the door.

and theres no breeze at all anyway so whats the point?

6 showers ive had to take today, SIX. i get more bills in the summer than the winter between the water for showers, the fan, washing clothes more as me and MiniGame sweat like anything, deodorant stuff, fly spray, I find summer more expensive!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2013 21:35

If the air outside is hotter than inside I close the windows. No point in letting the hot air in. Also keep the curtains closed on the sunward side.

GertrudeMorel · 06/07/2013 21:46

We've just had a leisurely dinner in a pub garden and then done 3 miles with the dog, as he can't tolerate the heat in the day.

It was so lovely to be out at 9.30, still light, still warm.

I love, love this weather.

valiumredhead · 06/07/2013 22:10

We have every window and 4 patio doors open, if there's any breeze I want to feel itGrin

I'm sleeping downstairs on the sofa tonight, far too hot upstairs!

xTillyx · 06/07/2013 22:28

Grr,well thought we would be ok tonight with windows open but the knobs down the road have decided to have a big party. Garage music and drunken cackles, the sound of summer of my street.

valiumredhead · 06/07/2013 22:34

Oh greatHmm

GwendolineMaryLacey · 06/07/2013 22:58

and sorry but 'large' people in stringy vest tops and leggings or shorts that ride up the inner thighs (and thats just me!) and old men with moobs and hairy bits and warts letting at all literally hang out. eeeewwww.

Fucksake. So we now have to walk around in our overcoats to avoid offending your delicate little eyeballs? Eeeeewwwww to that kind of childish stupidity Hmm

digerd · 07/07/2013 07:06

No vest tops for me outside, as my arms are too hideously wrinkly. I need them fattening up to plump out the skinConfused
Had to change my winter duvet for the summer one last night.
Will take out dog now, so must hunt for my black silky leggings and as only 19 degrees atm can wear a full sleeved top- hooray. Smile

No, I'll wear my thin harem pants, instead Smile

Wishfulmakeupping · 07/07/2013 07:08

Hate this weather too because my little dd hates it. She can't sleep properly really hoping it doesn't last long

Badvoc · 07/07/2013 07:17

We are on hols in Northumberland from 13-20th....please tell me it will be sunny!?
Pretty please?
:)

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 07/07/2013 07:21

I'm a maker trader. I'm outside all year. I'm 100% entitled to main about whatever weather I like. I moan all winter, I complain in the spring, I hate summer and autumn is shit too. It's ok normally when you can move about, keep warm, get out of the rain etc, but when you are stuck in one place, most weather is crap! Summer is worse though, the chiller counter vents warm air and all my little waxed cheeses melt and weep! Sad

digerd · 07/07/2013 08:02

Just got back from a lovely dog walk - if only the air could stay as fresh all day - sigh.
NO BREEZE at all so far, air very still, so if no breeze gets up for this afternoon, it will be suffocatingly hotSad.
So, now out to water by back climbing roses before it gets too hot, and hoping they will last longer in this heat.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 07/07/2013 08:10

Market trader! Doh!

xTillyx · 07/07/2013 08:45

Everyone should wear what they bloody well like in this weather and not feel bad about it. Being a luminous shade of white I've had a lot of 'milk bottle' type comments but I don't care anymore. I'm hot, I'm getting the milk bottles out.

digerd · 07/07/2013 09:11

Just done one hour, mostly in the shade, of watering and pruning. Latter was in the sun, didn't manage much and now too warm and back indoors in my east facing wall to floor 2m 38 wide bow window sitting room in 27 degrees.

STILL NO BREEZE. When there is no breeze and scorching hot, cycling is the best as that creates your own breeze - until you stop. SE

digerd · 07/07/2013 09:14

I don't cycle any more, so will take a spanish fan with me to waft for 3pm little dog walk. Smile

MadeOfStarDust · 07/07/2013 09:27

I'm working for a painter/decorator/handyman at the minute - we are crawling in roofspaces replacing wiring... you would not BELIEVE how hot and completely horrid it is....

it is great to be hot if on holiday, or in an air conditioned office, but working in excessive heat is wearing....

valiumredhead · 07/07/2013 09:46

It's stifling here. Just watered the garden and was tempted to water myself with the hose !

GloriaSmud · 07/07/2013 09:50

Badvoc ~ I'm also keeping an eye on the weather as we're going to be in North Yorkshire that week. So far I think I've managed to work out from the charts that it's going to be slightly cooler, still sunny but with the odd chance of a shower.

GloriaSmud · 07/07/2013 09:57

26.7C here (Leicester) already. We're forecast for temps to hit 28c today but I can see us hitting 30C or slightly more again. We got to 30.7C at 4.35pm yesterday.

MadeOfStarDust · 07/07/2013 10:08

does nooooooooooooooooobody else have to work in it?

GloriaSmud · 07/07/2013 10:22

My Dad used to be a radio engineer (lots of crawling about in mucky uncomfortable places/roof spaces to poke microphones through ceilings of concert halls etc), so I'm sure he would know what you're going through at the moment.

MadeOfStarDust · 07/07/2013 10:32

thank you....... GloriaSmud -

just doing this for a month to get some extra cash for holidays with DH and the girls.... I was a SAHM/PT dinner lady....

nice to mix things up, but didn't realise how bloomin' hot it would be!!!

Bunbaker · 07/07/2013 10:45

I totally agree. Loose clothes are key. I wore a close fitting vest top for the first part of yesterday and then changed into a loose fitting one in the afternoon and the difference in comfort was astonishing.

We had 25 degrees yesterday and it is forecast for 24 degrees today. Lovely Grin

Badvoc · 07/07/2013 10:45

Gloria we are in lecis and I can't beleive how hot it is already! :(
Oh....and my dad is an industrial boiler engineer!
This weather makes his job.....uncomfortable :)
