No pics, but they look like this caused by the sun refracting through hexagonal shaped ice crystals.

Ooooh we've just seen a moondog. Eerily beautiful - DS did ask if it was aliens

can't see a moondog but gosh it's cold and bright out there. < huddles back under blanket>

I've just seen a sundog & it's thanks to the OP that I knew what it was!

Totally lovely - didn't last long & no time to get camera.

I 've just seen two sundogs - on each side of the setting sun at an equal distance from the sun but the sundogs themselves were not identical!

Double sun dogs again today - I wonder if that is always the case? Off to google!
