They have taken a real pummeling here

Looks like there is more to come too, and another after that.

The real problem here is the heat. Over half the country is experiencing highest temps since record-keeping began. It has been over 40 here for the past 3 days, and we have another 5 days of that sort of heat predicted.

I had workmen arrive at my house at 7AM this morning as that is the only time it is cool enough to do work outside.

Shock Earlybird.

I follow a blog, and the writers house has lost all power, the area is not likely to be reconnected for 7 days - more if the predicted storms arrive again later. He also spoke of the extreme heat. A poster on his blog is parts of the EMA, and was posting all sorts of advice about trying to stay cool and healthy in the heatwave with no power. He even mentioned how to keep dead bodies refrigerated without power! Shock

I hope you are managing to stay cool and hydrated.

I am hugely grateful for air conditioning. Can't imagine those poor people who are without it following the storm.

Being outside is like opening the door of a hot oven.

It looks extreme to say the least. Nasty nasty storm! Earlybird, how are people coping? Outside of the power outtage areas are there any concerns with regards to power supply?

I saw a weather article on BBC last night, talking to an expert in the US - he expects this pattern to continue over the summer. Shock

OYBBK, is the position of the Jet Stream affecting the US as well as us?

manky, in the US over the eastern side theres been a very strong high pressure system, hence the heat wave. On the NW side of the US it has been unusually cold I believe. So the weather is certainly out of kilter, but its what puts the jet stream out of position that is actually creating the weather iysim. I should look into it more really.

I was trying to find out about the weather on the west coast - I saw that there had been snow fall later than expected, and the snow at Paradise on MT Rainier has taken longer to clear.
Also, an Osprey nest I've been watching in Glacier National Park has failed - they think due to the adverse weather.
