I was at university in 1989 when there was a really big event. We turned up to our lecture on geophysics the next day, and a very excited lecturer said "did you see...." To which we replied "no... " (we hadn't known and the city lights were too bright to see it from campus) - and he turned green as he realised that he had forgotten to tell us there was a magnetic storm.

He nearly got lynched.

I have seen them before though - an amazing display in 1984.

I have never seen them. You lucky person!

The space weather prediction centre auroral oval prediction plot shows aurora over Scotland at the moment. If you have clear skies, and low light pollution it might well be worth going outside and lookng North....
