I am in the SW, went into town today and saw quite a few daffodils in flower, this is the earliest i have seen them flower. We have only had 2 frosts this winter and temp has hardly gone below double figures, no sign of any snow or hard frosts, are we going to get any winter? (i want snow), seems like the daffodils think its spring already Grin.

I have, I have We were at Nottingham Castle on Wednesday and there were some of these flowering. Think they're a type of daffodil?

Marne · 06/01/2012 18:20

Grin I am pleased i am not going mad, yes they are mini daffodils and its way too early for them to be out.

Mine haven't flowered, but they've made an appearance. It is tremendously early.

We have snowdrops :)
some hints that winter may start next weekend

mankyscotslass · 07/01/2012 09:28

We saw snow drops in the park last weekend - beautiful, if slightly odd up here this time of year!

OYBBK - typical, DS is off on a Cub Camp next weekend!

mycatsaysach · 07/01/2012 14:48

saw blossom on a tree about a week ago
no frost at all here so far
had a wasp in bedroom last night so think may have another nest like last year

Marne · 07/01/2012 15:39

dd1 stood on a wasp yesterday (luckily she had her shoes on),

It does look like its going to get colder next weekend but still no sign of snow on the weather reperts (yet), i do hope we get some as we are prepared this year with snow boots and trousers Grin.

Was in Tesco today, they had big backs of proper gritting salt for sale - I got a couple just in case!

OhyouBadBadkitten · 07/01/2012 16:51

a wasp! thank goodness for shoes. came back on thread to say I just squashed a proper mosquito. Ridiculous!

Looking at the models any winter looks at the moment to be a brief interlude before we are back into autumn. Still, that is looking some distance away.

Keep us posted Kitten...

OhyouBadBadkitten · 08/01/2012 12:55

Will do :)
Next weekend sees a battle between the cold and the mild. who will win.....?

GloriaSmud · 09/01/2012 10:29

I can report I've just seen my first bumble bee of the year! Along with the early daffodils, it might get a bit of a shock if a cold snap occurs this weekend! If the cold front does win, I'd like to put an order in for lots of snow, as it might stop my ILs from visiting this weekend DDs would love it!

southeastastra · 09/01/2012 20:12

i can't get over how hot it is? unless it's my hormones Grin am boiling hot and no central heating on

topknob · 09/01/2012 20:15

In South East & my daffs are growing..I mentioned it do dh who was not the slightest bit interested ! It is not right...I am waiting for a big snow fall to kill them off x

LaurieFairyCake · 09/01/2012 20:15

It's so weird. Haven't worn a coat yet, just a cardigan.

We have only had 2 very light frosts. It's so odd after the last two winters.

hellhasnofury · 09/01/2012 20:18

I'm in East Anglia, my miniature daffodils were in flower on Christmas day which seems stupidly early. I am desperate for some good winter weather.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 10/01/2012 07:58

aargh - I just typed out a forecast and it vanished. grrrr.

Still looks like a brief cold spell over the weekend with some sharp frosts over the east at the weekend. After that, its still a battle between cold and warm. The GFS model shows Thursday 19th with a potentially nasty storm and temps a few degrees above zero. No real signs of any significant snowfall or prolonged deep cold at the moment.

We have green strawberries in the garden!

OhyouBadBadkitten · 11/01/2012 07:46

still all up in the air after this weekend. Storm on the 19th misses us entirely in this mornings run. Sharp frosts this weekend and some fine and cold weather. After that.....?

OhyouBadBadkitten · 12/01/2012 07:55

Today it is looking a lot more likely that mild and unsettled weather will win. A winter dominated by westerlies so far....

tak1ngchances · 12/01/2012 08:51

Poo-ey. I hate mild and murky!
