more warnings

The winds could be particularly nasty to the east of the Pennines and poor old Blackpool seems to have another good bash at the wind. Gernerally quite galeish across the UK.
silly old weather.

The wind is the worst it has been here tonight our shed is nearly blowing apart and there's lots of banging in the garden.

My 6 year old was scared to go to bed as it was whistling through the windows.

Labradorlover · 04/01/2012 23:31

At last, we've not in a weather warning area! Just torriential rain showers and 50mph gusts with a hint of the north just for a change.........

EduStudent · 05/01/2012 00:26

Very windy here in the Midlands, though it seems more whistly than like it has any actual power to it.

EduStudent · 05/01/2012 00:30

I take that back, a bins just gone trundling up the road.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 05/01/2012 07:20

Good morning all. Hope you managed some sleep.
Rather too dark to see the results of the overnight wind at the moment. Quick glance at the models shows a quieter week next week hopefully as high pressure builds to our south. Still pretty windy and unsettled esp further north but still a good time to effect repairs. Sadly the models dont show the high pressure lasting...

Morning Smile
Terrible night here, barely slept.
It seemed to settle about 1am, but I woke again at 3 and it was kicking off again. Hope the west doesn't get it too bad today.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 05/01/2012 07:50

Not fun sibling!

Was woken at 6.30 by very blustery wind and rain. It's bin day here and the first one since before Christmas, so there's 3 weeks-worth of recycling as well. Several bins have gone over (and that's with them full of rubbish!), including our neighbours bin for recycling plastic bottles. The bottles are everywhere!

It settled for about an hour here then started again with rain aswell, not too bad this morning but still windy.

Not checked for damage yet but dp was expecting the shed roof to go

LottieJenkins · 05/01/2012 08:05

Police in Suffolk had 60 call outs to fallen trees last night!!!Shock

liamsdaddy · 05/01/2012 08:37

I wonder if the Met Office should of had a wider warning area. It was definitely very blowy in Essex overnight and some of those gusts rattled the house more then tuesdays.

Fortunately the only damage for us is a plastic table that got loose and is now in a few pieces.

mankyscotslass · 05/01/2012 08:42

We were woken at 2.30 by the sound of roof of the wendy house being torn off!

Daveslittlehelper · 05/01/2012 08:44

Rather windy here in North West. Chickens still intact and rather confused as their feathers are blowing all over the place.

miSaltireandwine · 05/01/2012 10:33

Have just got back from docs after going this morning - we had to get up last night as we could hear a banging noise - thought it was the shed roof. I went into the garage (to check to inside) via the extrenal small door and it blew out of my hand and banged my head - in fact it caught the whole of the left side of my body- I've got a massive bruise there now, right down the side of my head and neck and shoulder Sad.
We also lost tiles off the roof and the neighbours whirly blew out of it's concrete fitting and is lying in our garden

Mirage · 05/01/2012 10:53

Awful in Leicestershire, very strong gusts of wind and torrential rain.We were woken in the early hours by what sounded like hailstones against the window.I wish it would stop,it's been windy for days now and I'm fed up with it.

GloriaSmud · 05/01/2012 12:38

Oh Saltire Sad Hope those bruises go down soon.

Was going to say the same as Mirage, that it's awful here in Leicester. We've had strong gusts of wind and there's rubbish, recycling and empty bins all over the place.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 05/01/2012 13:38

oh crumbs Saltire, that sounds really nasty.

Mirage · 05/01/2012 13:47

Saltire, that sounds really nasty.Have you got any Arnica for the bruising?

We popped out to post a letter and found several huge branches down, one right across the main road, and two huge cedar trees uprooted, one on the cricket pitch and another in a field by the road.Sad they were very old and beautiful. The weather report said it should die down later, but it is showing no signs of doing so at the minute.

miSaltireandwine · 05/01/2012 13:49

Thanks everyone is it pretty sore, and a lovely shade of purple! However, on the plus side none of us were serously injured or killed, so that's a blessing.
I have painkillers and arnica and ice packs.
The neighbours car didn't so fare so well, it got damaged by soem tiles

EduStudent · 05/01/2012 14:43

Ouch, sounds horrible Saltire, but like you say, doesn't bare thinking aboout how much worse it could have been.

Was very rough here overnight (Midlands) and still now. Several wheelie bins blown over and woken up a lot in the night, but thankfully we seem to be getting away without too much damage.
