I think long-term forecasts are possible, although not by the Met Office! Let's see if I'm right.

There will undoubtedly be a bitterly cold and snowy December in the areas where bitterly cold and snowy Decembers usually happen. But will we get a bitterly cold and snowy December in other areas? Somehow I don't think so, because that would require a very sudden change in the current weather patterns, and the swift establishment of a Scandi High. Of course that could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.
