I am trying to get the Xmas visiting logistics sorted for a family that ranges from south coast to north east via east anglia. Last year didnt work out so well.

How far before Xmas are we likely to get a forecast worth taking notice of?

I'd say around December 14th is the earliest that we'll get any real idea which way it's going. Probably not what you want to hear. As soon as the models (that I can see) start showing Christmas in the range I'll start a thread.
