bbc news
Always interesting I think to observe the start of winter in the States - will it be us soon? Not got the foggiest idea! Nothing really showing in the models at the moment....

we had snow in october a couple of years ago. took photos as there were still leaves on the trees.

Seems so odd since we have had some lovely warm weather over half term and have had a picnic outside Confused and gone out to do some drawing for homework and not frozen fingers to the pencil.

we had a heatwave, coldsnap and then some more mild sunny weather again. it is very odd. you never know what to expect.

Ooh must skype my mates in Richmond. Although it looks like it might just swing north of them.

mankyscotslass · 29/10/2011 17:25

I wonder how bad it will get. They have issued loads of warnings, I hope people pay heed.

mankyscotslass · 30/10/2011 16:46

Look at how much snow fell here

ByTheSea · 30/10/2011 16:55

I'm from that part of the world and my FB page is full of friends posting masses of snow. Lots of friends and family have had trees falling down because the trees are not used to the weight of both still having leaves on them and having snow too. My brother has lost power and they have told him it's not coming back on until at least mid-week, so he's just booked a hotel. What a mess.

cripes. It sounds really nasty.

Spoke to DB in New York today - they had about 5 inches of snow yesterday, but mostly melted by today.

blackeyedsusan · 30/10/2011 17:35

30 inches... eek!

My Dad has told me that if the USA east coast have bad snow then in two weeks time we will get it as well and so far each year he has been right. I'm not looking forward to November Sad

Hope the people there are ok.

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 31/10/2011 07:16

Fortunately no snow showing on the models I can see in the next two weeks for most of the UK.

Can you see what the weather is like in 3 weeks time? If it takes the weather two weeks to reach us i think by the 3rd week we should have snow Confused - or its just my Dad talking crap which is not unual Grin

There were loads of news stories about a bad winter but it's November tomoro and still no snow Shock I think its been the mildest October every - we even had a heat wave Grin

GloriaSmud · 31/10/2011 13:05

Cheeptrick ~ the morning presenter on ClassicFM said that an amateur weather friend of his had said that the snow hitting the US would come our way in a few weeks. If it doesn't, then we can blame him and your Dad!

GloriaSmud · 31/10/2011 13:10

Just reported on the BBC1 news, it's the 4th time in 135 years that snow has fallen in October, on Central Park in New York.

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 31/10/2011 14:10

The furthest that I can 'see' is the 16th November using a model called gfs. Of course looking that far out is a bit of a fantasy anyway - but it can give a general idea - sometimes. It does look quite cool on the 16th and rather windy.
