El Hierro volcano (Canary Islands)

As we like our volcanoes here(!), looks like this one's heading for an eruption.
Post about it here on the Icelandic blog and here (finding this site a bit slow to load.)

Isn't this the one where there's a potential for part of the flank to break away into the sea, causing a tsunami that could swamp the US east coast?

No it's not that one, it's La Palma that's the tsunami danger

Definitely something going on - though some opinion is that it may be an underwater eruption.

Great we fly to the Canaries on Saturday, for recuperation from a big operation.

The impression I got from the blogs is that this is probably only the start of the eruption, and that there will probably be effects felt on the island.

But I think it's highly unlikely to affect the other islands.

Trying to keep an eye on this - the blog seems to suggest that fissures may open on shore, but other articles are saying the main threat is landslides.

Have been frantically refreshing the blog page whilst trying to de-flea the house and cats - multi tasking or what!

Cats are so much fun when they get infested with those little blighters!

It looks like it may become a Surtseyan eruption at part of the fissure eruption.

And the tunnel has been closed again.
