I keep checking on the metoffice site to see if they've had to use these yet! Be interesting to see if it makes the site easier to use ~ there's rather a lot of symbols there!

I think its the end of March? They are potentially a bit confusing really - more like trying to decipher what options you can get when buying something like a new oven.

What are those symbols supposed to represent? So far, I've got:

be alert for rampant three-toed sloths;
watch out, your ice-cream cone is dripping;
ensure you have sufficient doilies before your MIL arrives;
FYI: some cars are driven using off-side wheels only;
check field before opening gate in case of angry bulls.

Yep, pretty clear to me. Grin

Actually, I really don't get what the three bars are supposed to represent. Confused

I'm sure it'll be obvious once someone kindly explains it to me.

I think they warn of incoming microwaves? or it might be fog I suppose.

Ah that's why I've not seen them being used yet! Looking at them again, it's hard to tell between the 2 shades of green, one seems to be slightly more yellow. Then again maybe it's just my computer screen!
I think the 3 bars is a warning of cattle grids or it's the view you get of a toaster, looking from above.

I asked the nice people on uk.sci.weather, and Kitten is right - the three bars mean fog.

Those symbols are similar to the ones on the meteoalarm site: www.meteoalarm.eu/legend.inc.php?lang=en_UK&s=1.
