Whilst my weather eyes are mostly on Queensland today I shouldn't omit the advisories for parts of Scotland for severe gales and heavy snow tomorrow and Friday. Take care chaps.

OYBBK
Storm Damage: West Lancashire (Not Lanarkshire!)

O.M.G. What a night of terror. That storm in Scotland appears to have extended to Lancashire. Wind brought down two whole sides of double render off the chimney which is above our bedroom. Crashed down onto the roof about 6 ft from my bed. I woke up screaming. Thank God the roof is made of stone. (v old house)

Oh s**t there has just been another massive crash now

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2011 09:00

Hi chaps, sorry, its early to bed for me at the moment
Trinity have you not seen my warnings about trampolines in the past? They always turn into sails in that kind of weather. Bit of a running joke in severe weather communities.

Tether those trampolines!

I hope you all managed some sleep last night and that the damage isn't too bad. It was an impressive storm even for Scotland in winter.

we had a recorded top speed of 80.4mph winds last night, the whole house was shaking!!

No damage to report though, although thanks to another driver, we saved ourselves some car repairs as there was a huge plant pot wedged under one of the wheels!

Still cold and windy, and a little snow shower earlier, but luckily hasnt come to anything!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2011 09:04

nitnat!!!!
Bloody hell. When it is safe, take photos and call your insurance company asap. I'm out for the day but when I get back I'll take a look at what has happened in your area.

In the mean time please can you contact torro they arent just about tornadoes, they are also about severe weather in general and they would be very interested in your reports. Please though stay in until it settles.

also nitnat am happy to receive pms if you want to talk about it off board. I am very interested in what is going on in your area and Torro would be too.

If you can, just have a look (through a window) and observe anything you can about the clouds. Height, texture, that sort of thing. I really do need to dash now else I'll miss my train.

It was really wild last night in Glasgow Shock Lots of broken branches (NB: not just twigs Shock) in the streets.

BTW, OYBBK: 68mph for Tiree is nothing. We used to go there every year for our summer holidays when I was wee. I have fond meomories of cycling into Force 9 gales Hmm to get to Scaranish, the main town village hamlet (the trip back was a "breeze" though Wink).

nitnatnaboo · 04/02/2011 09:17

Thanks OYBBK will keep an eye out and note details. Can't distinguish individual clouds at present - it's just solid grey.

winterpetunia · 04/02/2011 09:28

Just adding the latest warnings. Keep safe everyone.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2011 14:49

lol at a 'breeze' PB. I know that it does get very wild up there, it was more of a 'marking where we are up to' comment.

Thanks for the update Petunia - just cramming some lunch in before I go and get dd.
