omg storm spectacular last night in south devon

Heavy hail or was it graupel, coming down horizontally, that rocked the house. Thunder and lightening. Me and dd were awake from 3-5, and i am wrecked today.

Never heard or seen anything like it.!!

i don't think, judging by the local news that drivers were prepared for the onslaught we had last night/early hours. They are saying that drivers had started out on journeys not having seen anything on the weather reports. I think the a38 exeter-plymouth has been impassible.

It's true, i have been glued to the reports. We had minimal snow friday, about 3 inches.

It was supposed to move on more but apparently we have lots more today. By my back door, the hail is about 3-4 inches!!! I am about as far south in devon as you can get, so I can only assume that the moors are very affected.

I read about that storm - very impressive!

My Dad (100) is in Chillington; he normally has a good support network, but I'm worried no one will be able to get to him and he never answers his phone during the day because he is plagued by sales calls. He insisted he was fine when I spoke to him last night.

partridge, I live in K! I am sure that neighbours are helping out. The roads are ok, a mix of slush and graupel today.

flight thanks! It is still looking ok for wednesday night, the west should be much clearer and the sun coming out over the next few days.

Yes, there's a good friend opposite, though he's quite elderly himself, even though he's 25 years younger than my Dad, so I wouldn't want to ask him to go out unless it was an emergency. Dad is still very self-reliant though, he can still cook for himself and he usual keeps his freezer well stocked.

The people at the Health Centre are great too and he gets a lift down there regularly (he lives up on the hill which he can't manage any more) and he also still gets the Coleridge bus into K most Fridays.

He's very stubborn, though, won't hear of coming to live with any of us ( I have two brothers and a sister) and won't get a phone with a display so he can screen out sales calls because he says he can't find one that works properly with his hearing aid, so he just doesn't answer during the day!

thats the one thing about living here, people help, and it's easy to ask anyone for help ( well maybe not if you are a self sufficient 100yr old!)
