Are your kids allowed in the playground if there is any snow/ice ?

Am just wondering if our school is taking the H&S stuff too far.

The kids have been stuck indoors & not allowed into the playground for over a week now.
There is still ice on the pavements etc, but no deep snow etc.

The school say it is 'too dangerous' to let them out (Junior age kids).

The kids are climbing the walls by the time they get home!

Can't they just clear a part of the playground or something?

After all, these are the same children who have managed to walk to school along icy pavements....

if an accident happens on school grounds then school will be liable

they will have done a risk assessment which would have revealed the risk is greater than the benefits

falling outside of school means someone else will be liable

limited funds and shrinking budgets = more caution from schools

The snow is still so deep here that there is just one narrow path from the school gate to the school door.
The mums have to wait on the street as there is nowhere in the playground.
The kids haven't played outside all week at school. They have been in the gym/dining hall though.
It is not the school's fault, there is only so much they can do!

Ice no, but they play on the grass area where it's not sloppy. Snow yes, when I went yesterday the playground was full of v big snowmen

In our school the kids aren't allowed on the playground when there's thick ice but they are allowed on the field, they chuck them outside at every opportunity. HeadTeacher organised a whole school snowball fight one lunchtime

Ours aren't allowed out when there is thick ice.

Today was their first day our in over a week.

We did let them out Tuesday/Wednesday last week in the snow, but half had come with no wellies or sensible shoes, and no gloves/hats.

The older kids were hurling snowballs around, which is banned.

So once it froze that was it, in until the thaw.

I am a lunchtime assistant. It has been hell.

Our playgrounds are like ice rinks - no kids out today.

My ds2 has been kept in for weeks as well. They cleared the snow and gritted last year, but this year, they've done nothing and the kids are going crazy (saw this for myself the other day).

Funny I come from a city that has snow and freezing temperatures 5 months of the year. Schools don't get closed down unless is is
-30'C with a wind chill. Kids still play outside, with snow, ice and icicles up to -20'C.

It is a bit pathetic really how cold countries seem to carry on and the UK can't.
