Well, a bit of a thaw this weekend :) Make the most of it, it won't last. warnings are for ice Some nasty conditions mentioned this morning on R4 this morning in the Greater Manchester area where rain has fallen on freezing roads. Any reports appreciated :)

After the warmer interlude it is going to get colder again. It generally looks like a dry cold, but with increasing snow risk through the week. Of course snow may well pop up at very short notice once it turns colder, so not a time to get complacent.

i need to travel next thu in central scotland and then again on 22nd down from perth to newcastle - what do you reckon my chances are?

Pavements icy here OYSSK, but no rain overnight, we were lucky.

DD is ill and home from school, missing her Nativity Play.

I'm sure the kids are all dropping like flies bcause the school won't let them out at break times, so they don't get fresh air. The grounds are too dangerous for them they said.

TheUnmentioned - At the moment I would say good luck, the m90 motorway is a mess again today more accidents and ice, and the west route a9, m80 is just as bad, I live near the m80 and the schools are not open today because the primary routes are still a mess.

If you do have to travel, pack your car full essentials, blankets, juice, tea, coffee, chocolate and also (a bowl to pee in just in case)

I prob would not recommend it, I got stuck with ds (4) on monday night, we were ok as I had a full tank of fuel to run the car all night, and I bought blankets and thermal underwear and pjs etc for him. However I was freezing and it is not the best, I do hope the roads clear soon though

I just heard on the news 1/3 of petrol stations without fuel in Scotland. Shortages in some other areas too.

Unmentioned - impossible to say atm but I think it could (unless they get the hang of things) it could get more difficult again. If it looks anything like it has done this past week I wouldn't do it.

manky - same with our school. Playground is one huge icerink. (mind you I remember making huge slides when I was at school - it was so cool!)

Everywhere seems to be icey today, I put one foot out and nearly went right over on the front door step.

All local motorways have accidents, this might be the most dangerous day to travel so far as lots of snow has melted and then refrozen?

How long will it take to all melt and actually go rather than just keep turning to ise at night. Brrrrr, looking forward to warm snap, bet 4 degrees never felt so warm!

In some parts earwigging I don't think it will thaw thoroughly before it turns colder again. temps are not going to be high enough to counteract the fact that it will go below freezing for a good part of the country at night through out the weekend. You are right, travelling today could be really bad.

We are at 0.1C here. It is just thawing enough that the cats are coming in with muddy feet. As I've been typing one has leapt on my lap, then on the desk. Mud everywhere. I cleaned it less than 20 minutes ago.

My cats still wont go out! Although that could be because of the resident fox, not the ice!

I'm not surprised Riven. I don't think weather models are great at taking ground conditions into effect. If the air is still, then the very cold ground is bound to have an effect on local temps.
