gaelicsheep - it's a bit different for me as my OH and myself run our own business. If I need a day off for whatever reason, ie kids off school due to snow, then I just take it.
I do work from home on these days but I don't have an employer to answer to iyswim.
I'm very luck in that respect! Grin

rosieposey · 30/11/2010 13:53

True OYBBK it isnt even winter yet :) Do you know how long this cold snap is supposed to last at all? I love it all crispy and cold rather than wet and horrid.

AMumInScotland · 30/11/2010 14:00

I'll cheerfully squash some of our snow down through the internet tubes to anyone who feels left out. We now have a 2 foot deep "rift valley" where our front path normally runs, and no way I'm attempting to get the car down our street until the council in their great wisdom decide it's due a turn with the gritter lorry.

ClaireDeLoon · 30/11/2010 14:06

Love snizzle. It's snowing here off and on but so bloody wet it won't settle. AMumInScotland I'll have your snow please. Can I be greedy and have half of it?

bandgeek · 30/11/2010 14:10

You can all have my snow too. There's a good 15 inches outside and I've not been out past the garden since Friday [starting to go slightly insane]

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2010 14:20

rosieposie - there is a fair bit of uncertainty about how long it is all to last. looks like there may be a warm up from the south after the weekend - but not to warm conditions, just warmer. No-one knows whether it will be a blip or sustained and there is huge uncertainty as to whether it will be a snowy breakdown.

Off to remove a bit snow from our drive before it freezes solid.

MummyBerryJuice · 30/11/2010 14:38

I feel this is the perfect time to advertise our thread where all snow moaning is welcomed.

We get the mulled wine on quite early too...

rosieposey · 30/11/2010 14:39

Yes its going to freeze tonight isnt it so thats a good idea OYBBK? - have gritted the front steps up to my house as although they are shallow i went flying down them with DS (aged 10 months) last year and dont fancy doing that again.

What is a 'snowy breakdown'? (asks with genuine hope in her heart)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2010 14:44

a snowy breakdown is where moist warm air moves up into the cold air=lots of snow - which can be shortlived depending on how warm and how far it goes.

I think metoffice invent has gone a bit skew-wiffy with its predictions of this afternoons snowfall - it is coming down heavier now that I've cleared the drive Hmm

MummyBerryJuice · 30/11/2010 14:48

I hope you are right about it warming up a little after the weekend. I don't mind it being cold but it'd be nice if we just got a bit of a thaw going.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2010 14:54

I suspect you may be a little far north to benefit hugely from it mummyberry - not sure though.

Louii · 30/11/2010 14:54

The snow is shit, was lovely the first day but we have been snowed in since Sunday, running out of food, the local shop has nowt either.
Snowing yet again at the minute. Not good!

tribpot · 30/11/2010 17:47

It's snowmageddon here (Leeds). Even though dh is a SAHD he's also a wheelchair user so really struggles in the snow. Fortunately he has a better wheelchair now than last winter and has managed the last two afternoon pick-ups (I do the mornings) although I've gone as welll in case of disaster.

More snow forecast for tonight :(

5GoldenFimbos · 30/11/2010 17:57

Kitten - do you think East Anglia will get any more? We have had some but not really enough for anything to close etc.

catinthehat2 · 30/11/2010 17:59

snizzle good
snowmageddon bad

oh yes

whomovedmychocolate · 30/11/2010 18:03

We are going to Centerparcs next Monday. Apparently they spent a lot of money putting fake snow on the ground for the winter wonderland. And now it's under 18 inches of the real stuff hahahahahhah! Grin

Not impressed with our snow, only two inches, frozen, crap to drive on and not enough to build a snowman. Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2010 22:28

5goldenfimbos, looks like some more for parts of suffolk overnight.

MummyBerryJuice · 01/12/2010 09:39

Can I add a new word to our snow dictionary?

Slewing - what it is doing outside right now. A nasty combination of sleet and snow. Brr!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2010 12:47

yuk!!

Hulababy · 01/12/2010 12:51

Lots here - up to D's waist in some parts of our street - the road is under there somewhere. \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/member/MemberPage?call=com.mumsnet.member.PublicImageGallery&nick=Hulababy\Pictures} on my profile.

5GoldenFimbos · 01/12/2010 13:36

Thanks Kitten. We have lots of horrible ice, skating rink stuff.

DanceInTheDark · 01/12/2010 20:59

We just have sleeting for that sleet/snow thing.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 01/12/2010 21:38

omg, Hulababy, can't believe the pics on your profile - SO MUCH SNOW!!!
