Just been issued by the metoffice, warnings of thundery showers from the North-West to the East of England.

They've got this one about right (here in Leicester), it's just started thundering and it's gone very dark out! Was going to do some blackberry picking but think I'll abandon that!

Oh yes, rain hitting the ground so hard it bounced back up to my knees in Stockport this afternoon.

Back home in Tameside just now listening to impressive thunder and watching an inky black cloud spread along the western horizon.

boiling hot and sunny between downpours though. Hmm

AnyFucker · 12/08/2010 14:49

it is raining, thunder and lightning here in Manchester

I love it

would rather have dramatic weather than all this blah stuff we've been having recently

petunia · 12/08/2010 14:54

I don't think we've had any sun at all today and I'm not sure it's been that warm, so don't know where the thundery showers have come from! It's chucking it down now; I think when the rain finishes I'm going to have to 'stake' my sunflowers at the front (they've got little twiggy-type stakes in and don't think they'll survive much of this heavy thundery rain!)

sudden sheet rain here in Scotland! I can hear it on the velux window in dd2's room over the baby monitor - 'tis very loud!

There was possibly thunder - but may have been some festival type firework milarky - you never know round here!

TheCrackFox · 12/08/2010 15:01

Oooh, we just had hailstones, thunder and lightening in Edinburgh.

Cool.

meep · 12/08/2010 15:21

ah - so it was thunder crackfox - no hailstones in this part of Edinburgh though!

mankyscotslass · 12/08/2010 15:56

More thunder and rain rolling in.

Impressive clouds!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/08/2010 18:16

Well spotted :)

suddenly got ominously dark here and started raining, but we are right on the southerly edge of it. Wasn't expecting this at all!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/08/2010 18:18

torro convective discussion

petunia · 12/08/2010 19:59

There's more of the same forecast for tomorrow (thought I caught the words, "If anything, it's going to be worse" on Radio 4's weather just before 6pm!) So it looks like tomorrow could be 'interesting' as well; going to keep a look out for those weather warnings!

I'm not sure how much convective potential there is for tomorrow. It does look wet. Lifted index is marginally high for east Anglia and the East Midlands. I do see the met office is mentioning thundery rain as a potential.

Would be very very interested in any reports from Suffolk with regards to a potential funnel cloud fairly close to Sizewell please.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2010 08:29

warnings out already for this afternoon

mankyscotslass · 13/08/2010 10:17

Nothing here this morning, so I had no excuse and had to go out for my powerwalk!

There was flash flooding in Cheadle yesterday, which is quite close to me.

petunia · 13/08/2010 11:26

Dull, grey and started raining here about 1/2 hour ago. Wouldn't say its thundery rain but looking at the sky, it might have set in for the day.

torro have issued a convective discussion.

ragged · 13/08/2010 12:01

No thunder or lightening but lots and lots and LOTS of the wet stuff (NE Norfolk).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2010 12:19
