Was this an allergic reaction?

Hi all, I'm after some advice on allergys, which to be honest I know NOTHING about.

This morning I gave DS (who is 6.5 months old), bread for the 1st time. I toasted it, put some butter on, cut it into fingers, removed the crusts and let him get on with it. He woofed down a whole slice! (the dog was most disapointed none dropped!)

About 10 mins later, suddenly, the right side of his face, part of his forehead and eyelids went bright red. Eyelids a tiny bit swollen. He was fine in himself, happy and laughing at his worried mother.
Called the doc's who gave me an appointment for this afternoon and said to call back if gets any worse.
1/2 an hour later it was completely back to normal. (so cancelled doc's)

What do you think?
Would you try bread again or leave for a few weeks?
TIA

Personally I'd speak to a doctor about it before trying it again, just to be on the safe side. But I don't say that from any experience: it's just what I'd do.

Has he had dairy before? I suppose it might be possible it was the butter rather than the bread.

Yes hes had dairy, cheese, milk, yoghurt, but not butter before. Can you just be allergic to one type of dairy?

I always though bread allergies showed as more gastrointestinal problems.
No history of food allergies in mine or DHs family

I'd leave it until speaking to the doctor.

My boy has always had food allergies and certain things if he touches them (for him it's egg and nuts) make his face go very blotchy and uncomfortable temporarily.

Could well have been the butter but dairy is a pretty common allergy in little ones so you might have noticed symptoms before. So may be the bread.

Or may just have been a random conicidence. But I'd play it safe.

Sorry - just saw your next post. Wierd that he's had all these things before. Unlikely he'd be allergic to just butter if milk etc ok. But allergies are wierd. May be repeat exposure. I'm just babbling really - doctor best person to speak to!

Hope you get it cleared up. It's always a worry when they get stuff you can't explain.
