Dd 5mo - Been advised to wean...

I really want to hold off until she is 6mo like I did with dd1.

Dd1 has 5/6 bottles of hungrier baby formula a day (I stopped breast feeding last week) She has 8oz of milk a time but is looking for more an hour after feeding.

Is weaning going to make much difference? She sleeps for a good 11/12 hours at night.

Hv said I should wean her now.

Thanks

I'm not sure if it will help with the frequent feeding, but if you are thinking of weaning, why don't you put some food (very soft steamed veggies, for example) in front of her each day and see if she picks it up and eats by herself. It's what I did with DD2 who seemed hungry and she eventually started eating at about 5 and a half months which I guess is when she was ready.

Also, if she's on formula is it possible she's thirsty? Not sure if FF babies need water as well in the hot weather (bit clueless, sorry).

Thanks for that. That is a great idea.

Also, good thinking about her being thirsty. I will offer her some water tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks

Would giving her more milk when she asks for it be an option? At least then you can feel reassured that you aren't introducing solid food earlier than her system can handle it.

What outcome are you hoping for? I'm over the sleeping. My 5m old still wakes every few hours to feed but is soooo much easier than his sister was that I consider myself lucky. I vaguely thought today that I'll be starting weaning in a month or so, but really this stage is so much easier that I'm in no rush at all!

I give her an extra bottle a day if she needs it. Today she has had 6 8oz bottles!

Im in no rush to wean either! I have a 2 year old as well and the thought of steaming and pureeing food again isnt appealing! BLW is an option but I think I will mix BLW and puree and see how we go!

My dd2 feeds every 2/3 hours in the day hence not waking at night for a feed. How often does you lo feed in the day?

Mine feeds about the same - but through the night too!

Like I said !!!

I don't know how much my ds takes because he's bf - perhaps you could just not keep track of the amount of milk your lo has too?!

Good for you, though. Good luck whatever you do.
