Water

DS is 8mo and still really hit and miss with drinking water from his free flow tommy tippee or doidy. We've been practising for 2m now but he hardly takes any. I have to hold the cup as he just flings it about

He doesn't bf very much now either and I'm worried about him dehydrating in this heat - we tried a bottle of water and he took 20ml.

When did your dc get the hang of cups/water and how much did they take?

I don't really want to get him too used to bottles as it seems a bit late now (he is still breastfeeding, with expressed bottles on the VERY odd occasion that I'm not around - he doesn't like bottles and won't drink much milk)

Just keep offering sips during the day - they all add up. Also offer it during meals.

If it's because he can't pick it up try this. It amazed me when my 7 month DS just picked it up and took a whole milk feed from it (though he's ff and used to bottles) because he never could with the avent magic cup or before that with the handles attached to his avent bottles. I do have to help him tip it towards the end though.

This is EXACTLY my situation as well, DS has been on nursing strike as well for the last 10 days (gave in yesterday - hurrah!)
I've been giving him his TT beaker at every meal, and every hour in between with water in, and he has gone from bashing it one day, to doing a suck the next and today he has been doing three big gulps in a row! (He's 7mo).
He's been bashing it around at mealtimes for the last 2 months, but I think the kep has been giving it to him in between as well - AND before I give it to him, I say "Mummy have some" and if DH is there, he has some, and then we say "DS have some", and it makes him laugh and he has a go too. You look a plonka but they do love to copy!!!

It's nice to hear I'm not alone!

It's so hard when they don't want to bf.....
