Would this be weird?

Chewing up food and spitting it onto a spoon for DD.

Not sure where I got this from, but means she eats the same meals, and any "difficult" foods will already have the digestive process started by my saliva.

Or is that just minging?

sounds a bit disgusting to me. I would just mash it with a fork or give it as it is

Yuck

Just give her what you're having for her to gum at (a'la baby led weaning) or just blitz it with a hand blender for a minute or 2.

It would be weird and fairly unhygenic.

IIRC the BLW book says that this is how weaning is done in some cultures, especially when it comes to meat.

It does make food easier to digest as the enzymes in your saliva start to break it down. On the other hand, for things like meat, it means that she won't get the full benefit of the juices (you'll get some though! )

Having said that, I'd personally feel a bit shuddery about trying it myself, and would just give my DS the food I'm having but as finger food.

I actually sort of did this a bit before DS got teeth. I wouldn't full-on chew, but I'd 'tooth' something a bit to soften it (e.g. bits of fruit like strawberry, melon etc, strip of meat).
Personally I don't see the need to go as far as proper chewing but I can see where your idea came from and I don't think it's actually massively unhygienic (unless you have nasty teeth that never ever get brushed ).No more so than cleaning a dummy by sucking it - which, of course, no one ever does .

I think it's fine, it's done in many cultures, makes your life easier, your child's diet more varied and anyway, the mouth has antiseptic properties.

If you give your baby a dummy do you sometimes put it in your mouth first to make sure it's clean? Same thing. Go for it.
