BLW and sitting unaided

Do babies have to sit unaided when they start BLW? I'm a bit confused - the info on BLW on the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers says they ought to be able to sit unaided, but IIRC the Gill Rapley book says it's okay if they're not sitting unsupported as long as they are in an upright position when eating.

DS is 6 months next week and we've been planning to start BLW with him then, but he can't sit up unsupported yet.

My LO couldn't sit unaided when we started blw. The inflatable cushion (came with the antilop from Ikea) provided him with enough support.

Thanks, crikeybadger. We have the Antilop, which DS has been using to play in at mealtimes, but we've been padding it out with towels. I'll stick with that then.
