My DS is just over six months old, i started weaning a few weeks early and all was going well untill last week when my ds has stopped wanting anything but fromage frais. He was having porridge, dinner and a pud but now refusing all, is this just a phase, should i just go with the fromage frais or shall i stop giving him ff and so hope he will eventually try something else. Interestingly he will accept a piece of bread or a tit bit from someones plate at meal times but just not what i put in his bowl. All tips gratefully received.

He is still v v early in the weaning stage so I wouldn't stress at all. If he prefers to steal from your plate at mealtimes then let him! Sit him up with you and put a few bits of what you're having on his plate, and don't worry about what goes in, milk is the most important source of nutrition until he's 1.

I'm a bit from the school of thought that so long as they are eating something, then they are doing OK.

You might find it is something to do with teething. All mine go for the easy option when there is something wrong in their mouth (teething/sore throat etc).

My 7mo is doing the same. She'd eat nothing but 3 petit filous a day if that was on offer. I've decided not to worry about it too much as she's having tiny tries of other things and I presume she'll just get the hang of eating more of them at some point. I think fromage frais just tastes really nice.

me too. my son was very fussy and was BF until 18 months. He would not wean, and would not take formula, or even juice in a bottle or cup. he only stopped BF cause i got pregnant and my milk stopped. He loves dairy foods, and at 2 1/2 went through a phase where he would eat only dairy, cheese, milk, yoghurts... i had to have my fridge stocked with those mini yoghurts.
now at 3 yrds old, he is better but still starts and ends the day with a cup of milk.

If you think about it, all those yoghurty things are so tasty and smooth and sweet and cool. i love yoghurts too.
just watch if he gets the runs or ecsma, he may have a dairy intollerance. they usually crave foods they are sensative too. xo

I'd stop giving them to him - they are packed with sugar. And give him bits off your plate instead - sounds like he's only eating the super sweet yogurt off a spoon, but is happy to feed himself

Sounds like he enjoys cool, sweet things at the moment. How about some soft fruit such as oranges, strawberries or peaches?

gizzy1973 · 01/07/2010 09:39

Not sure its the sweetness of yoghurt necessarily but the texture and coldness that they like as my ds would happily eat nothing but yoghurt and he has plain yoghurt not the kiddie ones packed full of sugar
