Help! Does my DS want to BLW?

We started weaning DS just before 6 months and he was doing really well with purees and the introduction of lumps, aswell as liking finger food. However over the last few days (he is now 7 months) he is sometimes refusing to have some things from a spoon, mostly at dinner time (still happy to have yogurt and pureed fruit from a spoon). This includes meals that he has happily eated before. However he is still happy to have finger food. Instead of his salmon dinner tonight he had a savoury muffin, half a banana and some yogurt.

Should I give up with the spoon and just start BLW now? Does anyone have a useful website/book or any advice that tells me how to do it!

Also side question my DP reckons that if he does not eat the main that is offered to him, i should not offer anything else. Surely this is too young to do this - my instinct is to feed him!

Help!

Hi

This is the bible

My little one started on purees and is now just on our food but in stick form ... it is soooo much easier and he enjoys it. Every time i eat i offer him some as long as it is suitable.

And i am sorry but your DP is being silly.

If your son is feeling a little more independent he'd probably like to have a go with his own spoon. Give him a spoon to hold and encourage him to dip it in the food at the same time as you're feeding him. Lots of praise when he hits the target. Then he'll feel like he's in charge a little more.

Keep offering a mix of finger foods and other dishes rather than giving up on spoons all together. Important to persevere.

Hi MSIMG - how's it going now? I'm having the same probs with my DS - been weaning for about 4 weeks now, since 24 weeks. First 3 went like a dream and DS was taking more puree each day.

Now has dropped off - he wants to be in charge and will only take a few mouthfuls from spoon. Have tried many tactics! My problem is that it is now affecting his sleep. HV says just let him take what he wants and offer more finger foods.

Same worry as you really - he likes fruit and yogurt...how are you progressing? Are you persevering with spoon?
