Confused about fitting in solids around BFing

DS is 6 months old but was 2 months premature so am doing the puree route as he's not ready for BLW.

I am exclusively BFing and he normally feeds around 7am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm and 10pm.

Should I offer him solids at the same timme as his usual feed or in between? I don't really want him to get into the habit of being fed every 2 hours, which is how it would work out once he got up to 3 meals a day. But I know he's meant to continue gettng lots of breast milk for a while so would giving him solids along with his usual feed mean that he has less milk than he shoud? I am getting very confused!

Moomo - My DS is now 11mo and I remember getting to 6 months and feeling completely overwhelmed by the whole weaning thing and like I was back at square one!.

When you start, don't worry about getting up to three meals, or what time of the day the foods are - any time of day when he is not sleepy or hungry or just been fed is fine. For at least the first weeks treat it as just another activity, rather than a meal. If he gets on really well, it is quicker, but if he's a little less enthusiastic it may take a while.

When he gets up to two then three meals a day, they will replace at least some of the milk feeds. For example, I now give DS milk first thing in the morning, after his lunchtime nap (about 2/3pm) and just before bed, compared to very similar timings to you when he was 6 months.

There is a slightly tricky transition where it does feel like you are just feeding them all the time, but it doesn't last very long and don't feel that you have to rush to get up to 3 meals a day - it's not a race, even though it may feel like it at times!
