Am I feeding my 6 month old too much?

I'm veering towards -> he's ok, but he is starting to look quite porky! Last time I had him weighed he was 6 months, and he was totally in proportion (at top of charts so big boy) He has taken to food like a duck to water, and three weeks down the line Im thinking crikey mate - you've grown since that weigh in!

He's been weaning for maybe 6 weeks, and still doesnt have that many solids, but I wonder if he's having too much milk. I'm inclined to think if he takes it, and stops when he's full (these days he doesnt always down his 7oz like he used to) then its fine. Its just that he seems to be constantly guzzling. Hmmm, It could be a growth spurt couldnt it?!

To give you an idea, he has

5am bf
7.30am bottle (7oz)
8.30am baby cereal/porridge - not a vast amount - maybe the equivalent of half to 3/4 of a jar.
11am bottle (7oz)
12.30pm equiv of half a jar of 'lunch' i.e. pureed something, plus a petit filous
2.30ish bottle (7oz)
4.30pm some more puree type stuff and a rusk equivalent (Which gets mushed, but not eaten)
5.30-6ish bottle (4oz)
then somewhere between 10pm and midnight he gets either a bf or a bottle (3oz)

In between all that he may get a token bf during the day which I dont count cos he wont take much. If he doesnt finish a bottle I offer the rest later before I give him food.

Hi,
I had a very large, hungry DD2. She's 2 this weekend, so my brain may have forgotton the exact details, but I can remember she was always feeding. 8oz of milk at a time and 2/3 meals at 6 months (she was weaned early). Loved her food, couldn't get enough of it.
She got really porky (didn't crawl until 10.5 months), but the HV weren't concerned. Just kept telling me she likes her food and that if she didn't want it she wouldn't take it.

At age 1 she was 2 stone - its quite funny looking back at the photos. Now age 2 she is 2 stone and 1 pound, barely put a thing on this year despite still eating as much (but she cut out the milk at 16 months). Much less porky now.

When she was 1 and moved onto cows milk I can remember buying 14 pints a week of it as we got through that much. Just a couple of pints does us these days.

So I wouldn't worry, sounds just like a little one who likes their food.

When she moved onto cows milk at age 1 I was buying 14

DS was like this. He took to solids really well and at 7 months was having 3 meals a day, plus 5 bottles! He went through a very chubby phase, not helped by the fact that he didn't crawl. HVs weren't worried at all, said as long as he was eating healthily he'd be fine.
As he moved towards 1 year, we started to drop bottles and replace with a snack, which he was fine with. After his first birthday he got more fussy with food, dropped two more bottles of his own accord and started walking. He started to look a little less portly!
Now, at 2.7, he's a big, solid boy but it's mostly muscle. He's very active and though he still eats well, he'll stop when he's full (even pushed away some chocolate ice cream the other day, after he'd had enough!)

Keep doing what you're doing, seems fine. Does he have many finger foods? They slow them down a bit...

My HV says as a VERY rough guide, once they're on 3 meals a day they should have 3 x 7oz feeds. So he's not that far off, is he?

Am as my 7mo DS is a skinny little thing and it's a bitch to get milk into him....eats ok though

When he starts moving more he'll stop gaining so much as the calories are used for energy
