Refreezing breast milk...

I've just started to prepare myself for weaning and am in the process of making purees to store for the next few weeks. Trouble is - I've just made up a big batch of rice with banana and without thinking mixed it with some previously frozen breast milk. It's just a couple of ounces, but now I'm worried about putting the purees back in the freezer - does anyone know if this is a cause for concern. You'd think I'd know these things by now as this is for DD2!

You are not supposto refreeze anything that has been defrosted, there's a higher amount of bacteria. Sorry.

I personally wouldn't but don't know for sure, at least you thought of it now!

Hmm, that's what I thought - it's just so depressing throwing expressed milk away!

How about if the puree was cooked then frozen?

It's OK to freeze something that was cooked, just not to refreeze it once it's been defrosted unless it was raw when it was frozen to start off with, ie, you can freeze a raw chicken, defrost it, then freeze it again but you can't cook it, freeze it, cook it and freeze it again. Each time it's allowed to cool bacteria will grow. Freezing just stops them multiplying. If you allow something to cool (like the chicken) then bacteria will grow, if it's frozen then the bacteria is still there, it just can't grow. When it's defrosted then the bacteria grows again as it needs to be warm, if you freeze and defrost then the bacteria grows rapidly IYSWIM.
