First few mouthfuls of food and a sore bottom

DS has had a couple of spoonfuls of carrot at lunch time for the last few days, mixed with baby milk. Yesterday, I gave him a spoonful of pureed apple.

He slept in a dirty nappy for god knows how long. He normally wakes to tell us if he is dirty/i smell it when he wakes, but he had a rare night of sleeping for ages, and it did not wake so don't know how long he was in it. In the past, if he has been left in a dirty nappy (happened a couple of times) he has had a tiny bit of rash. But this morning, he has a very red bottom and willy.

Is it the carrot? Is it the apple? Should I just give him baby rice for the moment?

Tricky - I would have said it was being in the nappy over night. baby poo does change as they get older so it might be that his bottom didn't react much last time but is this time. wouldn't have thought just a couple of spoonfuls of either food would cause so much rash on their own.
I guess, they might have made him poo when he wouldn't have normally and therefore, if he hadn't have had them, he might not have pooed (iyswim). I wouldn't worry and just let him have gradual mouthfuls.

Carrot also has a tendency to stain skin - so it could be that his skin looks redder than it really is.

pretty oh maybe. He is having a bath in a moment so will find out .

lucie you are right, he does not usually poo at night, and he normally tells us pretty sharpish that he has gone, he hates a dirty nappy so I was very surprised. Especially since he does not even sleep that long normally .

Glad it was not likely the food. I shall continue as I am. I remember with DD tomatoes gave her horrid nappy rash, she was not able to eat them til almost a year old, so we shall keep away from those with DS for a while

and oranges (unpasturised more so) too would give a sore bum or rash.
