Formula to BLW?

My DD is four months and I'm beginning to think about weaning. I've done lots of reading about baby led weaning, and I would like to give it a go, but I haven't seen anything about leading on from FF to BLW, has anybody got experience of this? She is fed on demand if that makes any difference.

Can't imagine it would make any difference tbh but my advice is don't rush the weaning too young and keep it very simple for the 1st few wks! If you are blw I think the babies are meant to be able to sit more or less unsupported (I think!) before you get going.

no probs with ff. but 4 months is too young. best wait til 6.

crikeybadger · 30/04/2010 20:46

Agree, wait till 6 months, then you can give them pretty much anything to eat (except honey). Have a look here for more advice or join the blw thread on mn!

Thanks, I am going to wait, at least until she can sit unaided and has lost the tongue thrust thing, I just like to be prepared

I did BLW with my second baby....mostly because I am idle/busy but as a consequence waited until she was 6 months old. But DS was only 4 months old FF and totally ready for food so he had Annabel Carmel's finest straight away. Because I thought blending, mashing and composing recipes for No 2 would be a huge bind, No 2 ended up helping herself to food on the table at 6-7 months if not before. So from about 5 months (when she was strong enough to sit alone in the highchair) when DS was having tea I made extra steamed veg sticks for her and she basically sat and munched/gummed them while DS ate his tea. I had numerous issues with DS and weaning. DD (3 years later) and my relaxed and frankly "eat what you want" attitude has culminated in her eating and trying any food....even curry. A big favourite is chilli. BLW is about making family life easy, not making 3 different meals and enjoying being together as a family! Just go with the flow there's no timetable to weaning!

Should have said DD was FF and BF, stopped BF at 4 months.

Demon, the link that crikey posted is to Aitch's blog - she mix and then ff'd both her dds, and then did BLW. She wrote a blog post all about it.
