Ideas on what to feed a sick 10 mo?

10 mo DS has had sickness / diarrhoea for the past 6 days. He's very listless and lethargic. Called the doctor, who just said we had to wait it out. DS has been eating only ready brek and banana all week (as well as being breastfed). He was already on the thin side (15th centile and issues earlier with dropping down the centiles). He's now looking distinctly skinny and I'm assuming he's lost a bit of weight. A bit worried about this and wondering if anyone has any ideas for things to feed a sick baby and get him back on the road to recovery. Or do I just have to wait it out and accept he's going to lose quite a bit of weight before he gets better ?

Be guided by your Doctor. KEEP NAGGING Doctor if you have ANY concerns.
Keep offering baby favourite foods that you know he will eat? And continue to breastfeed as much as he will take, IME its mostly all they want to do when poorly anyway.

BART

banana
apple (puree/ cooked)
rice
toast

steer clear of dairy - cheese/ yoghurt etc as apparently they can become temporarily lactose intolerant when have a d&v bug.
keep offering plenty of fluids - boob or water

i'd go see a dr. they'll prob say the same but nearly a week is a long time so they may take a sample (eugh!)

hope it doesn't last too long!

Thanks. Think I will take DS to the doctor if no change on Monday and see if they can take a sample. Will keep persevering with plain / non-dairy foods and see if he will eat a bit more. To add to the misery I think I've now picked up whatever bug DS has!

My docs have a 'rule' that over 5 days diarrhea in a child means a sample needs to be sent off so I would take him back as a week is a long time. Take him to the docs though, don't call, so they can check if he is dehydrated or not as DD1 always gets dehydrated when she has a stomach bug no matter how much she drinks.

the BRAT/BART diet mrsflux posted is good for bunging them up but lots of BM really is the best thing if you can manage it now you are sick.
If he is lethargic and 'droopy' try and get fluid in him anyway you can as fluids are much more improtant than food.

Don't fret too much about the weight loss, he will put it back on when he gets his appetite back, but also don't expect him to get it back really quickly once it has cleared up, it might take over aweek before he is eating as much as he was before.

And huge sympathies as it's horrible when you are sick and so are they.
