Expressed breast milk in ready brek?

Just after some advice, hope someone can help.

I usually make DD's (8 1/2 months old) porridge in the morning with 7oz of full fat cows milk. But recently she has lost interest in bfing (even though I do keep offering it several times a day!) so I've decided to make up for this by expressing and adding breast milk to her food as she loves her food.

So can I use breast milk to make her porridge? I normally microwave her porridge with the usual milk but I've read that you cant microwave breast milk. Does anyone else have any experience of this?

Thanks!

yes you can make it up with breastmilk

you can microwave breastmilk but it does affect the nutritional content i believe (antibodies and that kind of stuff) so you may not want to do so

if you want to up her BM consumption then make sure you always offer breast before meals, and maybe cut back on the food a little bit if you think she is missing out on BM because she is eating lots

yup, I used up EBM in cereal- I heated the BM in warm water as if I was going to bottle feed it and then poured it over the weetabix etc

I would imagine that it's not interest she has lost, she is just reducing the amount of feeds that she has naturally as her solid intake increases. My DS reduced his feeds quite dramatically after we introduced solids but at 19mths he loves his 'milkies!'

Yes you can use breastmilk to make her readybrek as it doesn't require much heating but I wouldn't use it for porridge as that needs to get quite hot first. Put the bottle in a jug of hot water first.

thanks TIY, I always offer her a BF before her food but she wont have much, she's usually distracted by something else and the longest feed she'll have is in the morning for about 5-10 minutes, never more than that.

Maybe I can warm the BM bottle in hot water and add the heated milk to the dry porridge? but will this mean that the porridge isnt cooked properly?

thanks Jooly and TBMON, might get her to have some weetabix actually.

oh I do hope she does that TBMOM because at the moment it looks she's going to self wean soon
but i will keep trying as i was hoping to bf until she's 2!

Exactly the same as Jooly here. Worked great, and it was my theory that just warming the milk that way was less likely to hurt it's nutritional content.

Good luck with the feeding and remember by 8 months babies are really efficient at feeding so she is probably getting quite a lot of milk quite quickly.
