What age can you start using stock cubes?

I make my own stock but find it really tedious. Ds is 11 and a half months, I was planning to start using stock cubes when he is 2 but I don't really want to wait until then. Is there really too much salt in stock cubes?

Probably as soon as you can get the foil off!

Seriously, they are very high in salt generally, so I would use them sparingly from 2-3yrs onwards

Does anyone do low sodium stock cubes? If not, there's a market out there for anyone who can invent them!

Thanks Raspberry. You would think someone would make them without salt, they don't really taste any better from the homemade stuff.

I get the Reduced Salt Bisto gravy granules. I like them.

Actually, I tend to flavour ds's meals with homemade chicken stock, made by boiling up the remains of a sunday roast chicken, less salt that way and with 2yr olds you don't have to worry so much about too much fat

I think that as long as they are in a recipe and not just served on their own they are okay...

You can get Kallo organic low salt stick cubes. They have 0.03g of sodium per 100 mg of stock, compared to 0.4g for the normal ones. Big difference.

That IS a big differnce. Where do you get them from?

I got them from a local farm shop, but I have seen them in health food shops.

Being thick here, but is there a special low fat Kallo stock cube, or are all Kallo organic ones low fat (the pic on sainsburys online is too small ).

I got the Kallo low salt vegetable stock cubes from the Co-Op so its not just health food shops that sell them

I got the kallo stock cubes from Tescos and Sainsburys. They are in the section with organic & special diet foods (eg gluten free products) rather than with all the ordinary stock cubes.

kallo low salt veg cubes are good in a blue packet

my ds is 17 months but haven't tryed them yet and not gonna do it at all. we dont use them in cooking for kids. i think to much salt in them and other things...
