Hello,

I am a little confused and am hoping you wise ladies could help clarify a few things.

So I attended a weaning talk y/day - v traditional about purée stages etc. Anyway, the brushed over BLW, but one of the things the class leaders said was that, until one year old, any cows milk you give a baby must be boiled - ie, if you are giving cereal for breakfast with milk, you have to boil the milk first. Is that right? I haven't read that anyway and wouldn't boiling it curdle it? (added to the fact that it as been pasteurised anyway?)

Another thing I was told - under 1, any water you give to baby at meal times needs to be cooled boiled rather than straight from the tap . I thought after 6 months, tap was fine. Is that wrong?

Thank you very much for your help!

sounds like they're stuck in the dark ages!

milk doesn't have to be boiled no (but boiling doesn't curdle it!), you can use it as it is

tap water is fine after 6 months I thought too

it might be worth writing to the pct, or gp surgery, or hospital or whoever to ask about this. because if they're giving ou out-of-date information that needs to be challenged

Well I think that people like Gillian McKeith advocte always boiling milk (for everyone) as it is then gentler on the stomach. But never heard that as an 'official' party line.

No to cooled boiled water either!

Did they also say to sterilise stuff until they're one? A dead giveaway that it's out of date

crikey, my DS is 10.5 and was never told that... cows milk, unless it is not pastuerised, and pretty much all doorstep and shop milk is, is fine to pour from teh bottle into your child's cup or bowl.

it is not suitable for an under 12 month old as a main drink, but boiling absolutely not needed

who gave this talk> sounds like they need a refresher course?

you can use formula/breast milk on cereal if you prefer
