8mo won't drink apart from breastfeeding

Does anyone have any thoughts about how to get my DD to drink milk or water from a cup? I have tried 3 different spouty cups and a doidy cup and have offered water at every meal for the last two months but she still doesn't drink anything. She has 3-4 breastfeeds a day and isn't constipated at the moment but I think she still needs to drink doesn't she?

My dd was the same. Now 10 months and is drinking water happily from the advent sippy cup. She never became constipated or dehydrated. One day she suddenly got the knack.

Thanks Chica, I guess maybe it will just take a bit longer then.

Another recommendation for the avent magic cup. I think the soft spout is quite good for bf babies. dd initally refused all cups apart from this one, but will now drink from others.

Appleand - she will drink when she's thirsty. Your milk is better for her anyway, so why should she bother with boring old water?

My DS 2 never had water for years. That was my fault - I offered him juice. I remember the first time he had water. We were out for a family cycle and it was really hot. I had water in a plastic bottle. It was warm and disgusting and tasted of the zillions of bacteria that were in the (not very well washed) bottle. He drank it and loved it! ;) I was just so amazed.

And he's still alive.

My DS2 wouldn't drink out of a cup either. I tried all sorts but eventually found that those cow print cups worked well. The spout is quite large and solid.

I offered it for months and he never took more than a few sips and then one day he just got the knack

I have to say that I also gave him cow's milk rather than formula. I figured as he wasn't drinking it anyway it didn't really matter so I may as well get him used to the taste of cow's milk (he was still having 3 bf a day).

He's now 13 months and his favourite vessels are my mineral water bottles with the sports cap and DS's juice cartons with a straw.

assume how long did it take for your ds to accept the cows milk? Debating whether to do the same thing as dd dislikes formula and is 8 months old so seems a bit pointless to keep pushing it.
