my bil says they are a chocking hazard. am i ok to give them chopped into quarters. i will obvoiusly supervise her eating them

Chopped in half is fine, as long as you cut them down the long side, not across as I've seen some people pointlessly do .

As long as you cut them in half they are fine. Just remember not to crush them in a large vat, leave them to ferment over many months and then give them her to in a glass. That would be bad.
