She carefully picked every item of food from her bowl and threw them on the floor.

She then picked up the bowl and began to suck at that

Not sure she has quite got the idea yet!

This sounds exactly right.

She picked it up and put it mouthwards, followed by the obligatory flinging on the floor.

A great first day's efforts by any BLWing standards, well done memoo

(DS, 14mo and was BLW, started exactly like this and within weeks was troughing all sorts and has never stopped.......)

get used to the food flinging......
its completely normal, lose the bowl though they make way too interesting noises when banged around. try only putting one or two pieces of food on the tray at a time. Tempting as it seems sticking a camera in their faces at every meal isn't the best idea either.....good luck!!!

My dd started like this and I worried she would never get anything in her mouth.

She is now 10 months and is sat demolishing a huge chunk of pineapple .

She eats everything and anything but is very messy and still likes to fling food (or hold it out to the dog!).

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 27/03/2010 16:45

totally normal
I was ready for this after reading aitchs blog for ages
but then gecko just grabbed food off my plate at 6 months and has been eating everything ever since

she is my prize for having extremely fussy dd1 and 2

that's exactly what mine did!! It kept her quiet while we ate which as I understand it is the point of BLW
But usually I don't use a bowl, just stick the stuff on the tray - it makes them work harder as there's further to push to get it off the edge

memoo · 27/03/2010 17:48

Definately going to get rid of the bowl!!

She did the same tonight but she did have a suck on a cucumber stick for a few minutes first! which is definately progress I think

no need for a bowl. she's flinging the food because she doesn't know what it is yet. she'll figure it out. did you eat with her?

slhilly · 28/03/2010 10:08

It's fun but damn it's messy. We put down sheets of newspaper, so we could just scrunch and chuck it away at the end of the meal. It helped a lot, although somehow the floor always still needed a small wipe as well....

memoo · 28/03/2010 15:05

Yeah we all ate together, she wathces me eat with total fasination, I was cutting up an apple at the table and eating some my self and giving her some too.

Putting newspaper down is a good idea, although our dog helps to a certain extent!

Gave her a piece of toast this morning and she loved it!! was sucking bits off it and actually eating them
