baby rice when first weaning

I've read most of the old threads on this topic but cant quite find the question/answer that I'm looking for.
Yesterday I gave DD her first spoonful of baby rice (she's only 4 and a half months old but 15lb and has been showing all the classic signs of being ready for weaning for about 4 weeks now).
I cant remember from weaning DS (4 now) how long to give just baby rice for before offering a vegetable? I dont want to rush things but I also dont want to risk giving her constipation or boring her with too much rice.

I didn't bother with baby rice at all, I went straight on to mashed banana and pureed fruit and vegetables. I can't see much point in starting them off on something that looks and tastes like wallpaper paste when "real" food is perfectly OK to give. My dd was 16 weeks when I started weaning her (that was the HV's advice then).

I did it for a week then went onto pureed fruit mixed with EBM & baby rice.(pear) Did that for a week then tried apple.
No particular reason really but it went ok for us.

I did it for 8 days. Then started on the fruit/veg purees. I read you're supposed to offer the same thing for 3 days to make sure they don't react badly to it. But if you think, how long is it going to take to get through all the different fruit and vegs' if you do that !!

wigwagbam - i like your style, wish i had you to advise me when weaning, i was totally rubbish at making baby rice and i am sure my dd's first months to weaning have scarred her and turned her against food. baby rice is boring and flavourless, why are we advised to give it first.

i am going to take a leaf from your book with child no.2 when that happens?!?!? and go straight to nice wholesome flavoursome food

Ds ate baby rice only for 2 months because of health problems - he never seemed to get bored.

I gave my ds baby rice at first and unsurprisingly he didn't think much of it but loved pureed apple and pear. I think I went on to mashed banana and then sweet potato before trying things like broccoli and spinach. I froze everything in ice cube trays and then I could mix one cube of spinach with sweet potato, for example.

hello
my boy doesn't seem to like anything at the moment that isn't mixed with baby rice and milk! This was how we started as we wanted to get more milk in him as his feeds had tailed off and now we seem to be stuck. I keep trying to decrease the amount of milk in the puree to make the taste stronger but we simp,y get a screaming baby! Any ideas anyone or should I just not worry about it. He loves his solid stuff otherwise, whatever we put on a spoon he will eat(as long as it's mixed with the milk and rice)
