Just started giving DC3 some solid food...you'd think I'd be au fait with it all by now, but I could do with some reassurance!

I gave him a slice of particularly ripe and delicious pear at lunch time. He found it too slippery to grip, to I held it up for him and he sucked a teeny weeny bit off the end. It was about the size of a crumb. He then spent the next 15 minutes gagging on this tiny bit and sucking it back in.

Is that normal?

I BLWed DC2 and I seem to remember him guzzling bits of banana with nary a gag. Or have I just blanked it out?

Also, is it OK to give him toast?

Yes, normal. He is probably 'gagging' on the taste as well as the texture - his first non-milk an'all.

Yes, OK to give him toast - my DS (nearly 7mo) LOVES toast and Philly. He'd always go for that before veggies, actually... Or try toast and houmous.

Thank you musicmaiden

I think you're right about the taste making him gag. His poor little face crumples with every new flavour.

He's still hardly swallowed anything at all. I fear I may have been v lucky with weaning DC2, and that DC3 is going to be horribly fussy more like DC1.
